Did you miss
the Wardens Supper? |
|
What a shame!
What's a Wardens Supper I hear you ask? Well, in our Lodge it is
traditional at some point in the Masonic year for the Senior and
Junior Wardens to buy all the brethren of the Lodge supper.
Following a Lodge Practice on 27th October we had a most enjoyable
supper of homemade steak pie and mushy peas. Don't miss the next
one!!!

Gavel Night |
|
A successful
Gavel Night was held at Spring Bank Place on Friday evening the 23rd
June. We were very pleased to welcome seven gentlemen who were
interested in Freemasonry to the Lodge room's. The whole evening was
most enjoyable to both members and guests and went without a hitch,
culminating with one gentleman handing in completed joining forms to
the Secretary!

18th Annual
Meeting of the Lodges of Charity, Belfast |
|
What a superb
weekend! Never to be forgotten!
We were
met at the airport on the Saturday morning by their Senior Warden
‘Woody’ who seemed to have ‘commandeered’ a minibus for the weekend,
and taken to our hotel, The Holiday Inn. The actual
meeting contained some
slight differences to our ritual. For those of you who haven’t ever
experienced Irish ritual, there is one difference during the opening
which you need to be aware of. At a certain point, the WM will
direct the Deacons to ‘take the word’ from each one present. The
Deacons then approach each brother who communicates the word at low
voice to the Deacon. The ‘word’ is in fact an entrance phrase.
There followed and excellent
Festive Board with traditional Irish Fare and in
addition to the usual speeches, we had a quick fire comedian
entertain us for 20 minutes.
The following Charity Lodges
were represented: Birmingham (6), Bradford (12), Warrington (8),
Bolton (6), Kidderminster (6) and Nottingham (5). Making a total
105 attending and dining.
Since we were not returning
home
until Sunday evening a trip
along the County Antrim Coastline and a guided tour of the famous
Bushmills distillery was arranged, together with a stop for a couple
of Guinness's!
Many thanks to the Charity
Lodge No. 688, Belfast who were superb hosts.

Changes &
Additions to Website |
|
This month I have
made a few changes to the website. Firstly I have changed the
Guestbook to one managed by
Bravenet, the main reason being it allows up to 2000 guests
before archiving the previous archived after ninety days. Next I
have added an area restricted to members of the Lodge and invited
guests, if you require a password please email me at
webmaster@lodgeofcharity4105.org.uk. On the Lodges Link page I
have added new links to Mark Lodges, if you know of any others
please let me know. I have also organised the News Archive a little
better, each year having its own page hyper-linked from the bottom
of the Archive page.
Lastly I am
experimenting with a new calendar page, which looks like a calendar! It
will email you reminders of meetings if requested.

A Bit of a
Hobby! |
|
Recently I
purchased Satellite Navigate for work purposes. What a great system,
a real boys' toy. The system I purchased was
TomTom GO. I am very pleased
with the system and I have recently discovered how to add and edit
your own Points
of Interest (POI). To this end I have compiled a list of the
majority of Masonic Hall in the Provinces of Yorkshire, West Riding
and Yorkshire North and East Riding from the postcodes. The few I
have been unable to find are Thornhill Lees, Dewsbury; Cockburn
House, Pateley Bridge; Waddington; and Memorial Hall, Linton. If you
would like a copy of the ov2 and bmp files to install on your TomTom
or PDA TomTom Navigator then click here.
If I have missed any or if you have more accurate coordinates for
any of the Masonic Halls please email me.

Due to Masonic rules and regulations the initial invitation came
through the Lodge of Charity No. 1551 Birmingham, a lodge in the
English Constitution.
The same day the
invitation came 11 brethren booked flights from Leeds Bradford
Airport to Belfast International to support this enjoyable annual

1st Meeting
2006 - A Raising & Burns Supper |
|
The first meeting
in 2006 was held on Friday 13th January, we had over sixty guests to
witness a very enjoyable raising ceremony. We had visitors from
approximately 17 lodges but notably the Prince of Wales Lodge No.
1648, Lodge of Old Clee No. 8697 Scientific Lodge No. 439 and Lodge
of the Three Graces No. 408. Regular readers of the "Lodge News"
will recognise these lodges as great supporters of the Lodge of
Charity.
An excellent
meeting was rounded off with an equally excellent Burns Supper where
the Haggis was piped into the Festive Board by a piper in full
highland dress from the Woodsmoke Lodge No. 9317, Mirfield.
