Lodge Weekend |
|
The Worshipful
Master ran an excellent Lodge Weekend Friday 3rd - Sunday 5th June
at Lytham St. Annes, on the Fylde Coast, Lancashire. It was well
supported by approximately 30 lodge members, guests and their
ladies. We stayed at the
Chadwick Hotel, which is popular with many West Yorkshire Lodges
who use it as a regular venue for their annual weekends. It's easy
to see why, the food and accommodation were first class, and the
staff were helpful and cautious, in fact nothing was too much
trouble. This was our first visit but I feel sure it won't be the
last!

Least We
Forget! |
|
We've heard lots
about V.E-Day during this month and remembered the brave men and
women who selflessly answered the call of King and County during
those dark days between 1939 - 45.
This month I have had the
pleasure of accompanying one of our Senior Past Masters on a couple
of Masonic visits, one to St. Peters Chapter in Cleethorpes and the
other to the Lodges of Charity meeting described below. During the
course of both festive boards I sat with W. Bro. F Matthews PPJGW
and discovered he started his naval career in minesweepers at
Grimsby close to our first visit and at the subsequent Lodges of
Charity meeting I was keen to question him further regarding his
wartime experiences. He told me he was a member of
Harry Tate's Navy
or Churchill's Pirates, better known as The Royal Naval Patrol
Service, and the rest is history. Please read it for yourselves,
in his
words.
On Saturday May
7th 2005 the Bradford Telegraph & Argus published a V.E-Day Memories
Supplement, in which our Senior Past Master in attendance was
featured. W. Bro. R Thurston PPJGW a navigator on Halifax bombers
was shot down in 1943 on a raid over Berlin, he spent the remainder
of World War II as a prisoner of war incarcerated in Stalag IVB,
near Mulberg. He was eventually liberated by the Americans but had
some hair raising experiences after being initially liberated by the
Russians who told him and all the POW's of the camp to make there
own way to Reisa, approximately 25 miles to the south, where
transport would take him to the American lines. He became caught up
in the closing stages of the war where the Russians were fighting
remaining pockets of German resistance on the east bank of the River
Elbe and the Americans were doing the same on the west bank.
A third Senior
Past Master of the Lodge W. Bro. R Singleton MBE PPJGW was a member
of the Royal Navy Fleet Air Arm and flew Fairey Swordfish torpedo
bombers.
We owe a debt of
gratitude the these brethren and many like them.

Visit to a
Scottish Lodge |
|
On the Thursday
21st April 2005 I was privileged to visit Lodge Balgonie No. 747 in
the Kingdom of Fife, on the roll of
The Grand Lodge of
Scotland. I travelled to Scotland with two great friends W.Bro.
John Cook P.P.G.Supt.Wks. (Notts), Lodge Balgonie is his Mother
Lodge and W. Bro. Ken Hudson P.P.G.Sw.B. We were treat to an
excellent Mark Ceremony (incidentally we are all Mark Master Masons,
members of Bronte Lodge of MMM No. 535). Craft and Mark degrees are
much closer connected in Scotland than in England, all Scottish
Craft Lodges work the Mark Degree once a year to Advance their
candidates and those from other Lodges. Following the meeting we
were made to feel very welcome and were well looked after by the
brethren of the Lodge, and I must say I have new drunk as much
whisky in my life!!! In fact I seem to have developed rather a taste
for Scottish Grain Whisky, Cameron Brig a most enjoyable smooth
whisky. Local supplies are available from
The Wright Wine and Whisky
Company, Skipton, North Yorkshire.

Initiations on
Consecutive Months |
|
For the first
time in a number of years the lodge initiated two candidates on
consecutive months. On Friday 11th March
2005 we initiated a Lewis, Bro. Graham W.A. Cooper, my son. I had
great pleasure in being invited to take part in the ceremony as
Junior Deacon and was able to guide my son around the Lodge. The
evening was most enjoyable and the moving Father to Son charge
caused a few tears to be shed and a number of lumps in throats!

We had visitors
from, the Lodge of Benevolence No. 226 Rochdale in the

the
Lodge of Three Graces No.

At the festive board a Past Master from Lodge of Benevolence
responded on behalf of the visitors with an excellent rendition of
"The Lamb Skin". Click here to

New Pages
Added |
|
This month I have
added a couple of new pages to the site. The first is really in
honour of our new Worshipful Master who takes great joy in telling
jokes, particularly Masonic themed ones at our festive boards. It
seems such a shame for them to lost forever! So I decided to share
them with other brethren who surf this site. Enjoy! It would seem
our Master has found the same sources as my Masonic jokes!
Second, although
still under construction I have been planning to collate and write a
brief history of the Lodge of Charity No. 4105 for some while. I
thought if I published it under construction I would be better
motivated to finish the project. Here goes, I hope the sentiment
works.
