Grand Lodge of
Pennsylvania |
|
During
October whilst visiting the USA on business our Junior Warden had a
very interesting guided tour of The Masonic Temple, Grand
Lodge of Free & Accepted Masons of Pennsylvania. He was very
impressed with the total openness of Freemasonry in the city of
"Brotherly Love" Philadelphia. The Masonic Hall is centrally
located adjacent to the City Hall which had its foundation stone
laid by the then Grand Master and a team of Officers from
Pennsylvania c1874.

Isaak Walton
Lodge Great Queen Street, London |
|
The
Isaak Walton Lodge was consecrated in 1990 by masons with a shared
interest in fly fishing, we know this because our Senior Deacon was
invited to the installation of the new Master on the First Tuesday
in October. He was greatly impressed with the welcome and
hospitality that was shown towards him during the visit and made a
great many new friends. He left with a further invitation to visit
in February 2004, naturally he accepted the invitation and is
looking forwards to renewing the many friendships he made.

A Bitter Sweet
Day for the Lodge |
|

Friday the 11th
April 2003 was a very emotional day for the Lodge. The funeral of W.
Bro. H Gledhill PPGReg took place at Nab Wood Crematorium. W. Bro. H
Gledhill passed away on Saturday 5th April following a short
illness. W. Bro. Harry had a tremendous record of attendance at both
Regular Lodge and Practice's, he had not missed a single meeting in
eight years! He was Initiated on 12th July 1974, Passed on the 13th
December 1974, Raised on 11th May 1975 and was Master of the Lodge
during 1985 - 86.
Both he and his
son were to receive together Provincial promotions to PPJGW at the
forthcoming Provincial Grand Lodge Meeting on Saturday 17th May 2003
in Harrogate, a unique event in the Province of Yorkshire, West
Riding. W. Bro. H Gledhill's quite confidence, faultless ritual, dry
humour and constant encouragement for the Junior Brethren will be
sorely missed.

That evening the
Lodge met for its regular monthly meeting and Initiated a Lewis. A
moving ceremony was followed by an equally memorable Festive Board
where the Apprentice Song was presented to the candidate by a W.
Bro. from Lascelles Lodge No. 4796. Nothing unique in this I hear
you say! Well, this was the first time the Apprentice Song had been
performed in living memory, our Senior Past Master in attendance
could not recall it ever being performed at the Festive Board. It
all started when the Superintendent of Works whilst searching for
3rd Degree "paraphernalia" in the lodge cupboard found "The
Apprentice Song" on small blue cards, asked a few questions of the
Past Masters, and the rest, as they say is history!

U.G.L.E.
Approval |
|
We have received
excellent news regarding our web site. In late January the Lodge
submitted its web site for approval by United Grand Lodge of
England. On the 14th February 2003 we received an email from the
Communications Department informing us "there was nothing on the
proposed web site, which conflicts with Grand Lodge's policy on web
sites" and we were given permission to include a simple statement on
each page that "This page has been approved by United Grand Lodge of
England or use the "Charter Mark". The only exceptions to this
approval were the Links pages and this News page, as per U.G.L.E.
guidance notes for web sites.
